Open air tactile fashion exhibition with designer Michelangelo Winklaar during Lange Voor Haute Couture at the Lange Voorhout Den Haag
26 september 2024 until 6 October 2024
After the premiere of Lange Voor Haute Couture in 2023, where several Dutch fashion designers showed a creation, this year the work of one contemporary designer has been chosen: Michelangelo Winklaar. Winklaar's work is characterised as unique yet timeless clothing for the elegant woman in the spotlight. He focuses on the individual who has a penchant for pure materials, structure, nuances, form and an eye for detail for their own individuality.
Winklaar shows the passion, workmanship and craftsmanship behind the creation of a garment with this free exhibition. These extraordinary clothes are also known as couture (clothing made by hand), often unique, striking in shape and using special craft techniques. In this case, also partly made from sustainable and recycled materials, an important point to draw attention to.
In one of the showcases on the Voorhout will feature touchable couture, for which Winklaar is partly known. This form of tactile art was inspired by his visually impaired mother. He creates handmade designs that you can touch while presenting them, which is unusual in the museum fashion world. His garments are specially designed so that visually impaired people can enjoy the shapes, fabrics and textures through touch. In doing so, he strives for a more inclusive fashion experience.

Much of Winklaar's work is embroidered. To introduce people to couture and different techniques, a pop-up atelier can also be found on the Lange Voorhout. Here, Winklaar works on a new couture piece. With the help of passers-by, it will be embroidered. The special touchable couture piece will be on display at Kunstmuseum afterwards.
